These two sides proudly represent South American whose five teams have all made it to the last 16. Uruguay have already qualified for the quarter finals and the five sides have lost just once in the 16 matches between them so far. Yet one of them must be eliminated and Brazil are big favourites to progress in normal time at $1.57.Their brilliance against the Ivory Coast was followed by an abject display against Portugal though admittedly Kaka, Robinho and Elano were all absent. At least two of this attacking trio will return to the starting line up with Elano possibly recovering from the injury sustained in the win over Ivory Coast. This should see a much improved Brazil performance and they will need it against a resolute and talented Chile side.

They are $7 to produce the huge upset in normal time and this is certainly a possibility given their displays thus far in the tournament. They were excellent against the Swiss and also against Honduras. They only problem they had was their inability to finish the job and score more goals. They really should have scored a hatful in both games but had to settle for 1-0 on each occasion. Spain were next and Chile fell 2-0 down and lost Marco Estrada to a red card. Instead of caving in however, they recovered admirably with Rodrigo Millar pulling a goal back. Then it became apparent that even a 2-1 defeat would send them through so they retreated as both sides played out time.

This is far from an open and shut case and Chile have an outside chance of the upset. Brazil will look to dictate the tempo but Chile will not sit back and allow their illustrious opponents to come on to them. They will look to test the Brazilian defence and may have some joy. This game could even go to extra time with Chile $26 to win after 120 minutes. Yet it seems more likely that Brazilian quality will eventually win the day so the $9 on them winning after extra time seems like the best bet.

Verdict: Brazil made to work hard but will eventually get through
